Nina Montgomery reigns as "Queen of the Midday" by playing your favorite and greatest hits from artists such as Marvin Gaye, Pattie LaBelle, Barry White and many more. Even allowing you to join-in on her great interviews with friends like Brian McKnight, Natalie Cole, Shirley Brown, The Temptations, Bobby Rush, Willie Clayton, and the like!
While being groomed for a career in radio, Nina Montgomery also enjoyed multiple extended study travels to Mexico for her Minor in Spanish. Growing up in California helps Nina enjoy the perfect pace of the South. Currently, divorced with three beautiful children, she enjoys being near her family's hometown of Minden.
Before she was serving up the Classic Soul you love on Magic 102.9, she was on a Cumulus sister station with midday Hip Hop on the menu. Although, her 9a-2p time slot would remain the same, moving Nina's throne from KMJJ 99.7 was a little more than just plugging headphones into the newly decorated room down the hallway. It was also more than just being first to take a musical chance by leaving rap behind. It was leaving an old friend she'd grown with for about a decade. But change is good! And thanks to Magic's listening family, who continue being loyal to Magic, the first Urban Adult station in the area, it remains a welcome change. It was time for “grown folk” to have something truly unique…truly ours!
In the early 90's, Nina simultaneously held two full time on-air positions in Monroe.
She'd play classic country music as Nina Montgomery on Kickin' Kountry KJLO and then walk next door for her midday shift as Nina Montgomery on the Hip Hop and R&B station 100.1 The Beat! She may have walked into the wrong room a time or two, but she never used the wrong name!
Before joining The Radio People of Monroe, Nina received her Bachelor of Arts Broadcasting degree at Grambling State University while, (you guessed it!) working two jobs at once. In the late 80's, Nina's long (but fun) days involved nightly shutting down KRUS, where she served as Public Service Director /6pm-Mid Quiet Storm personality; and signing on at GSU's college station, KGRM, with her daily morning show. By the way...during that time, if you ever had a waitress with "Nina" on her name tag, you’d be happy to know that your tips helped her buy her first turntables!
