It’s been five years since we lost a true staple of Shreveport and Shreveport nightlife icon, Disco Dale.
There was a time not so long ago, where you would find Disco Dale out and about all weekend long. Towards the end, he was still very much active, often appearing at Phoenix Underground and Big Country. The fun-loving spirit of Disco Dale never wavered, even in his later-yerars.
When I first began working nightclubs, I was very young and even I had already heard stories of Disco Dale. In fact, Disco Dale used to regularly appear at my remote broadcasts, handing out his many bracelets and telling wonderful stories about himself. I don’t mean that in a bad way, in reality, it was one of the reasons Disco Dale was so special. He was a legend, and he absolutely knew it.
In his prime, it was said that a Disco Dale sighting at an area nightclub meant you were in the right spot, because Disco Dale would only go to the biggest party.
his is a man whose popularity somehow stretched across generations of Shreveporters over the years, all by doing one thing: Having the best time, no matter what, no matter where.
It’s very hard to believe it’s already been five years since Shreveport lost its party icon. In remembrance of Disco Dale, let’s try being overly nice to everyone we come across, and always try to have a good time with those around us.
If we all just find a little bit of Disco Dale in ourselves, our community would be a much better place.
