Winning Powerball Ticket Sold in Louisiana Now Worth Absolutely Nothing

I would really hate it if this were how you learned you actually won the lottery, so fingers crossed you didn’t buy this ticket.

Some one missed out on winning 50-thousand dollars. The Louisiana Lottery says the deadline to claim a Powerball ticket worth 50-thousand dollars expired on Thursday. The ticket was purchased at Fisherman’s One Stop on L-A 22 in St. Amant in Ascension Parish. Louisiana Lottery spokesperson Dustin Annison says it’s common for prizes to go unclaimed.

“Most are going to be your lower tier prize, such as when you win $4 if you match the Powerball in Powerball or $2 when you match the Mega ball in Mega Millions,” said Annison.

The winning ticket had matched four of the five white ball numbers drawn as well as the Powerball number.

Annison says it’s unknown what happened with the person who bought the ticket. He says it’s possible the player gave up hope after seeing they didn’t match all the numbers.

“So they put the ticket aside and forget about it or throw it away thinking it’s not a winner, but it’s important to check your ticket after every drawing, because there is always more than one way to win,” said Annison.

Annison says once prize money is expired it’s deposited into an unclaimed prize fund.
